Customers FAQ

It's free to post a public request and to receive quotes from Makers on MakeJo. You also have zero obligation to checkout unless the quote matches your expectations.

The cost of making your items will be quoted by Makers based on your needs, considering the production and shipping costs. To get an idea you can review recently awarded requests.

If you'd like to post a private request, visible only to registered Makers, you can choose the "private" option at the time of creating your request.

There is no restriction on the minimum or maximum order quantity. Simply list your requirements clearly in your request so that Makers can quote accordingly.

When posting a new request, you should always attach a document indicating your custom part(s) dimensions. This can be a drawing, hand sketch, CAD model, or any other relevant document.
See our Design Documents Guidelines for more information.

If you don't have a drawing for your part, you can still open a request and attach a hand sketch or a photo with some dimensions.
If you need technical support, we can help you. Please contact us.
Every request is open for bidding for 10 days. You can however accept a quote and checkout at anytime.
There is no minimum or maximum number of quotes a request can receive during the bidding period. It's entirely up to the Makers and the number of quotes can vary between many and none at all.
After posting a request, you may receive multiple quotes. Every quote contains key information for you to evaluate:
  • Ship from - This is where your fabricated parts will be shipped from.
  • Estimated delivery date - This takes into account the Maker's handling time as well as the estimated shipping time. You can hover over this field to see the breakdown.
  • Shipping $ - This is the amount quoted for shipping your your part(s). As a general rule, the shipping cost is not refundable once a tracking number has been provided.
  • Production $ - This is the all-in cost the Maker is charging to make your part(s).
  • Tax $ - This is tax amount collected by the Maker and associated with the goods and services provided.
You can view all the submitted quotes under the QUOTES RECEIVED tab on the request page.
A summary table displays the quotes information side-by-side to allow you to select the most competitive quote that meets your need.
Pro tip: When it comes to manufacturing, a lower price is not always better. Make sure you also consider other aspects such as the Makers experience and reviews. We also recommend to favor local Makers to reduce carbon footprint and support local manufacturing.
You can checkout after receiving your first quote, or wait until the end of the bidding period. You have up to 30 days to checkout after posting a request. The request and all associated quotes will expire after this date.
You can edit your request only before any Maker has submitted a quote. To edit your request, login to your MakeJo account and go to “My Requests” and click on the “Edit” button of the request you would like to edit.
If a quote was submitted on your request, further edits are not allowed, to enable a fair bidding process. If you still need to make a change after a quote has been submitted, you can delete your request and create a new one.
You can only contact a Maker after making a purchase. To start a conversation, click the “Contact Maker button in "My Purchases" under your profile.
Each order on MakeJo is custom made by a Maker for a customer. For this reason, returns to the Maker are not accepted unless the service didn't meet your request criteria. To provide the best experience possible, every purchase is protected by MakeJo Quality Warranty. If a part wasn't made to specifications, you are entitled to a replacement or a refund.
Makers FAQ

Registering as a Maker on MakeJo is quick and simple.

Sign up and register your workshop by following the steps presented to you. You will be asked a number of questions depending on your country of residence and local requirements.

Immediately after completing the workshop registration process, you will able to operate as a Maker. This means you will be allowed to submit quotes on open requests, have requests awarded to you, and make parts for your Customers to earn money.

There's two ways to get paid when you have a valid Maker account on MakeJo:

A) Get paid when you make parts for your customers:

If one of your quotes is awarded by the customer1, you, the Maker, will get paid the full amount you quoted on the request.2

At the same time, a small MakeJo platform fee (US$2.00 + 10% of the awarded amount.3) will be deducted from your balance.

Example
Transaction Debit / Credit
Awarded Quote Amount US$100.00
Fixed Platform Fee (US$2.00 Fixed) -(US$2.00)
Variable Platform Fee (10%) -(US$10.00)
Final Balance US$88.00
Notes:
  1. Submitting a quote is free. There is no fee if your quote is not awarded.
  2. Your funds will be automatically transferred to your bank account after a security period of 20 days following the quote award. This security period is required to reduce the possibility of frauds on new accounts.
  3. The platform fees are automatically converted and always charged in the same currency as your quote currency.
  4. If your quote currency does not match your bank account currency, the quote amount will be converted prior to transfer to your account and a small conversion fee will be applied.
B) Get paid for sharing your designs:

You will automatically receive money when someone purchase a request based on a design you uploaded to the design repository.

Sharing your creations is awesome and we want to make sure you, the original designer, gets a share of any transaction involving an item you designed.

Your Maker account must be in good standing with payments enabled at the time of the transaction for the transfer to be successful.

Example
  1. You shared an original design in the design repository.
  2. A user likes your design and decides to open a request to have it fabricated.
  3. A Maker (you, or any other Maker) submits a quote to manufacture the design.
  4. The user selects a quote and places the order.
  5. You automatically receive 5% of the transaction amount, or US$2.00, whichever is greater.

MakeJo users can be located anywhere in the world to use the platform, share designs, create requests, and order from Makers.
